You Built This: The Next Chapter of Specially Gifted Foundation

As we step into a new chapter of Specially Gifted Foundation, we find ourselves reflecting on where this journey began.

Six years ago, SGF started with a simple belief: that individuals with disabilities and the caregivers who love them deserve to feel seen, supported, and valued within their communities.

What began as a simple idea has grown into something far greater than we could have imagined.

Today, Specially Gifted Foundation is a Georgia nonprofit that provides meaningful giftings, beneficial resources, and opportunities for connection to families navigating disability. Along the way, we have been continually inspired by the generosity of our community and the resilience of the families we have the privilege of serving.

Today, we are excited to share the next chapter of that mission.

Before we look ahead, we want to take a moment to look back.

How It Began

When Specially Gifted Foundation was founded in 2020, our vision was simple: walk alongside families caring for children with disabilities in meaningful, tangible ways.

Like many nonprofits, we didn’t begin with a large team, a strategic plan, or every answer figured out. We simply saw a need within our community and believed something could be done about it.

Over time, that simple belief brought together an incredible community of people who chose to be part of something bigger than themselves.

Board members generously gave their time and expertise. Volunteers showed up year after year. Sponsors and donors believed in our mission before we had years of impact to point to. Therapists, educators, businesses, and nonprofit partners helped us reach families we never could have reached alone.

Most importantly, families trusted us with their stories.

If you’ve never heard the full story behind Specially Gifted Foundation, we invite you to visit our Mission & History page to learn how this journey began.

Looking back now, one thing has become abundantly clear.

SGF has never been built by one or two people.

It has always been built by a community.

Six Years of Impact

Since 2020, that community has helped us serve dozens of families across Georgia through life-changing giftings.

For us, a gifting has never simply meant purchasing equipment. It has meant listening first, understanding each family’s unique circumstances, and helping meet a need that could create meaningful, lasting impact.

Together, we’ve funded adaptive bikes, communication devices, specialized medical equipment, therapy services, wheelchair-accessible vehicle assistance, home accessibility projects, and countless other needs that insurance often leaves uncovered. In our very first year alone, more than $40,000 was gifted directly to families because of the generosity of this community.

Every family’s story has been different.

Every need has been unique.

But one thing has remained consistent.

Behind every gifting is a family experiencing hope, relief, dignity, and the reminder that they are not walking this journey alone.

Those moments are only possible because so many people continue choosing to invest in this mission.

See the impact for yourself:

More Than Giftings

While giftings have always been one of the most visible parts of our mission, they have never been the whole story.

From the beginning, we have believed families also need community.

That belief has shaped everything from Spring in the Valley to caregiver gatherings, family photo sessions, golf tournaments, resource events, and countless conversations shared over coffee.

These moments have created spaces where children of all abilities can play together, caregivers can connect with others who understand their journey, and families can discover resources they may not have found otherwise.

Community cannot always be measured.

But it can be felt.

It is found in conversations between parents.

In volunteers returning year after year.

In sponsors choosing to invest again.

In children laughing together on a playground designed for everyone.

Those moments have become just as meaningful as every gifting we’ve had the privilege of providing.

Looking Toward the Future

Over the past year, our team has spent a great deal of time reflecting on what comes next.

As Specially Gifted Foundation has grown, so has our understanding of where we can create the greatest impact.

Like many organizations, we have spent the past several years saying yes to every opportunity we could. Every fundraiser. Every event. Every opportunity to serve.

While we are incredibly proud of everything we’ve accomplished together, we’ve also learned an important lesson.

Meaningful impact doesn’t come from doing everything.

It comes from focusing on what we do best and stewarding the resources entrusted to us with intentionality.

That reflection has led us to a clearer vision for the future.

Our Refreshed Mission

Today, we are proud to share our refreshed mission:

Specially Gifted Foundation expands opportunity for individuals with disabilities and their caregivers, fostering inclusive communities where all abilities can thrive.

While the wording is new, the heart behind it is not.

This mission reflects what we have always believed while providing greater clarity for where we are headed as an organization.

It honors our history while creating space for future growth.

What's Changing

1. Expanding Our Family Giftings

For many years, our giftings focused on children with disabilities and their families.

As we’ve continued serving this community, we’ve been reminded that disability and caregiving don’t end when someone turns eighteen.

Moving forward, our family giftings will expand beyond childhood, allowing us to support individuals with disabilities and their caregivers through more stages of life.

2. Introducing Community Giftings

We’re also excited to launch a brand-new initiative: Community Giftings.

Alongside our individual family giftings, Community Giftings will invest in projects that create lasting impact for entire communities.

These projects may support schools, nonprofits, inclusive spaces, or initiatives that remove barriers and expand opportunities for many families at once.

Individual giftings will always remain an important part of who we are.

Community Giftings simply allow us to broaden that impact while remaining thoughtful stewards of every donation entrusted to our organization.

Together, these two programs represent a more sustainable and strategic approach to fulfilling our mission for years to come.

And It's Already Underway

The most exciting part of this next chapter is that it has already begun.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been working on our very first Community Gifting, and we cannot wait to share it with you.

While we’re not quite ready to reveal all the details, we look forward to bringing our community along throughout the process in the months ahead.

We believe it will beautifully reflect the kind of lasting, community-wide impact this new chapter is all about.

You Built This

As we reflect on the past six years, one truth stands above everything else.

None of this happened alone.

Every family we’ve served.

Every event we’ve hosted.

Every volunteer who gave their time.

Every sponsor who invested.

Every donor who chose to give.

Every partner who believed in our mission.

Every caregiver who trusted us with their story.

You helped build this.

Specially Gifted Foundation exists because thousands of people have chosen to believe that individuals with disabilities deserve to be celebrated, supported, and fully included within their communities.

For that, we are deeply grateful.

As we begin this next chapter, we are more hopeful than ever about what lies ahead.

Thank you for believing in this mission.

Thank you for building this community.

And thank you for continuing to build what comes next with us.
