Welcome to Kendall’s Library!
Once a month, I will be sharing Kendall’s 5 favorite children’s books.
One of Kendall’s favorite things to do is read. We read, at a minimum, 5 books a day to Kendall and, believe me, she’s a great critic! Her taste in books is very clear. She loves books about silly animals, books that rhyme, books about dancing, and any book you can “sing-read.” Sing-reading is what we made up to describe a rhyming book that can carry a tune that makes it easy to sing. Our girl loves to be sang to as much as she does being read to, so combine the two & she beams an infectious grin and probably some ear-busting squeals to, too! We hope these children’s books bring you & your child as much joy as they bring us!
Rumble in the Jungle by Giles Andreae & illustrated by David Wojtowycz
This book has it all! Bright, fun illustrations, rhyming, and learning about jungle animals! Kendall loves to point out the different animals and is eager to get to the next page. With different animals (characters) she loves to hear different voices for each animal – it always gets a giggle! It is definitely one of her favorites, and to be honest one of my top children’s books, too, so highly recommended!
Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Suess
This is a classic! Everyone loves a good Dr. Suess with all of his silliness. Green Eggs and Ham is full of fun. Requiring constant exclamation when reading, Kendall always has a smile on her face when she hears his bizarre, rhyming story telling! Definitely a crowd-pleaser!
The Story of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by Patricia A. Pingry & illustrated by Nancy Munger
I love to incorporate seasonal books. With Independence Day just around this corner, this is the perfect little book with a fun history lesson. Any book featuring something to learn is a definite must-have. Kendall loves the pictures in this one & I love that we have the opportunity to spell words we don’t always see in children’s vocabulary, like “flag.”
Down by the Cool of the Pool by Tony Mitton & illustrated by Guy Parker-Rees
This book features farm animals who dance their way into trouble. As mentioned above, Kendall’s absolute favorite things is to be sang to. Her second favorite is dancing. Down by the Cool of the Pool is the perfect book to “sing-read” and mimic the animals’ silly dance moves! It makes her smile ear to ear every time we read it, which is often. The pictures in this book are so fun & beautiful! Do yourself a favor & add this to your child’s library!
Hernando Fandango the Great Dancing Dog by Rachel Swirles
Yes, another dancing book! Are we seeing a theme here with all of the singing & dancing? Girl knows what she wants! This book is the perfect under”dog” success story sharing the message of never giving up & facing your fears. Kendall is always entranced by watching & reading about Hernando & Adelaide’s dancing journey!
We’re always wanting to add to Kendall’s Library! If you have any family favorite children’s books, share them with us in the comments! We’ll see you next month with Kendall’s 5 favorite books! Happy reading!
