Zariyah’s Family

Zariyah

My name is Dr. Rikiya Gumbaytay. I am the mother of two wonderful daughters age 15 and 5. I am raising funds for my youngest daughter’s Medical Expenses not covered by insurance. The Freedom Concepts bike will help Zariyah enjoy her childhood by having a bicycle like other kids her age, while also strengthening her body and helping her develop. Zariyah is a Miracle. After a full-term healthy pregnancy due to medical neglect of the hospital, Zariyah was facing death at and after birth. She was resuscitated, placed on a cooling blanket, Ventilators, Breathing Machines, and Life support/ECMO. The medical team at her NICU said there is nothing else they can do and was going to let her die. I said, “No. Not only is Zariyah going to live. She is going to walk. I will bring her back when she is walking. Give her my breast milk and let me touch my child.”

Zariyah is now 5 years of age, and we are still defying odds. She started having seizures again at 2 years of age. She is Quadriplegic. She has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Seizures/Epilepsy, Hypotonia, Scoliosis, and other diagnosis. But she is now 5. She took her first step in the Leckey Gait Trainer at the age of 3 and we are still striving towards her continual health and success. It is still a fight for her good and we have not given up.  I am her sole provider and caretaker. Her dad abandoned us after finding out that she was disabled. But I am the mother of two daughters that I love very much, and I will never give up on them. We appreciate everyone’s help in raising the funds needed for Zariyah. Thank you all so very much!
