I learned about your organization through a representative from Freedom Concepts. My daughter Alyannah (Ally), test rode an adaptive tricycle during one of her therapy sessions at Tender Ones. She absolutely loved riding the bike and we feel that it would give her another outlet to exercise and use her motor skills to prevent her from losing her current skills.
Alyannah was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy when she was 5 years old. After many years of constant testing, we finally got a diagnosis. Her condition has caused significant Muscle weakness causing her to be wheelchair dependent. The older she gets the more trouble she has managing a typical bike. She LOVES riding bikes with her siblings but has not been able to for the current 2 years.
Despite her diagnosis, we have worked diligently with physical therapists and found her other outlets to expend her energy in a positive way. She will be enrolling in wheelchair basketball/Softball this spring. Having her very own mobility bike would give Ally the perfect way to continue to expand her interests and allow her to understand that although she has a disability it does not define her. She is so much more than the diagnosis!
